For secure, tranquil and pleasant living
History
The plantation and ”landhouse” Jan Sofat, which are situated at the Spanish Waters date from the eighteenth century and were also known as “Jan Zoutvat” or “Plantation Uylenburg”.
As a plantation Jan Zoutvat was hardly successful and consequently had several owners over the years a.o. the Government. One of the last owners (until 1969) were the Sprockel heirs, who used the land among other things to rent out weekend houses at the Spanish Waters.
In 1969 the plantation was purchased by the real estate and developing company Spanish Water Resort N.V, who developed the land into one of the most prominent resorts on Curacao. The neighborhood is popularly called Jan Sofat.
Spanish Water Resort N.V.
In 1970 this company, with exclusively local shareholders, started with the infrastructural works and lotting out of the area. The major part, namely phase 1, with about 240 lots was ready at the beginning of the seventies. The infrastructure of phase 2 is under construction at the moment, while phases 3 and 4 of the original planned development are still in a planning stage.
Apart from lots sold, Spanish Water Resort is still the legal owner of the non-sold lots, roads, lighting and waterworks and consequently is responsible for keeping everything in good condition.
Potential buyers can approach the office of Spanish Water Resort, Kaya W. Godett 92 or by telephone nr. 4613050.
The director, Mr. Arturo Jesurun, will give you all the necessary information.
Neighborhood Association Jan Sofat
In order to attend to the residents’ interests, the neighborhood Association Jan Sofat was established in 1987. The objective was: to create and maintain an attractive residential area at Jan Sofat with a secure, healthy and pleasant living climate for all its residents.
The Association tries to reach these goals a.o. by
- improving and maintaining roads, roadsides, water drainage and illumination
- creating provisions in order to obtain greater security for its residents and their property
- organizing social activities to promote better contact between the residents
- representing the Neighborhood v.v. third parties.
Since the foundation of the Neighborhood Association a lot of the abovementioned matters have been achieved. One can think of security facilities, speed bumps, road repair, playground, sidewalks, drainage etc.). Social activities are organized, membership meetings are held and a news letter is distributed to the residents.
It goes without saying that all these facilities and activities can only be continued and expended if all residents participate financially by contributing on a monthly basis.
You can also cooperate by cleaning up and maintaining your nearest surroundings.
At least once a year a membership meeting is held to which all our residents are invited.
Division into quarters
The Association has divided the area into 4 quarters, namely West, East, North and South. This has been done to avoid misunderstandings, because certain lot numbers at Jan Sofat are used more than once.
Gazette
By means of the Gazette which appears once quarterly the residents are informed of the activities and events of the neighborhood. More info can you get via our website: www.jansofat.org
Security
Jan Sofat is a relatively safe neighborhood owing to a 24-hours security system at the main entrance and a patrol car driving through the neighborhood around the clock.. Weekly consultations are held with the security guards, which guarantee maximum control on the functioning of the security. For an optimal functioning of our security we need your cooperation, e.g. reporting of visitors and irregularities. At any time the patrol can be of assistance when you don’t feel safe. (For example accompany you to your home at night, inspect your garden or water front in case you notice something suspiciously).
Of course this can only be done by means of a reasonable contribution.
Entrance control
Persons coming in (and/or going out) are being controlled by the security guards at the entrance. Owners of lots, residents and their family members can obtain a CARD (two free per lot) or a TAG (Naf. 50,-- each), which makes things easier. Regular visitors and temporary guests, as well as domestic personnel can get a pass with which they can enter without problems. Passes can be obtained by the owners/residents by means of a written request to the Board. (ask for a form)
All residents are entitled to enter via the right-hand lane at the guardhouse using their electronic “Card” or a “Tag”. If you expect visitors, please inform the security guard. In all other cases you should be called by the guards and give permission to let visitors enter.
Mr. L.E. Fricke, who is in charge of registration, can give you further information.
Telephone number of the security at the entrance is: 747 3331.
